About the developer

Antoine van der Lee

I’m an independent iOS developer from the Netherlands and the founder of SwiftLee. I build Video Compressor, and I write the guides on this site.

Why I know about video

I’ve been developing iOS apps since 2009. Before going fully indie, I worked as a Staff iOS Engineer at WeTransfer. I helped build and lead apps used by millions of people every month.

Earlier in my career, I worked on streaming and media apps for Dutch companies, including Videoland. That’s where I learned how much storage, codecs, quality trade-offs, and playback compatibility matter for video. I’ve been dealing with those problems for a long time.

Today I ship indie apps through SwiftLee B.V., including Video Compressor and RocketSim. I also write weekly on SwiftLee and speak at iOS conferences around the world.

Why I write these guides

I write them the same way I write on SwiftLee: as a developer who just worked through the problem. The goal is to help you make a clear decision, not to promise a fixed storage result.

Every guide should be practical enough to verify on your own iPhone. When Apple documents a behavior, I link to that source. When a claim depends on the video or the preset, I tell you.

Transparent by default

This website is published by SwiftLee B.V., the company behind Video Compressor. That means the guides can explain features of the app, but they’re not an independent review.

I keep the guides in plain language and link to primary sources where I can. I state which version a fact applies to, I don’t make up anecdotes, and I don’t claim fixed savings without evidence. You can browse the guides or email me at [email protected].
